When I was signing up for SLI's this one caught my eye. I don't know what I expected when I showed up, but it wasn't anything that I had in mind. When I arrived, I was in the middle of an incredibly stressful day during an even more stressful week. Erica had a calming presence to her so immediately after walking in a felt a bit more at ease. We would go on to write down our stresses, obligations, things we love, and things we hate. She would provide calming oils and put us through some stretches and some breathing activities. As the session went along, I became increasingly relaxed and eventually we got to the end, and she gave us something to take away from the session. Throughout our life, we have obligations to friends, family, jobs, and just existing. We need to take some time for ourselves occasionally, to rest. Rest does not mean sleep in this instance. Instead, it means relaxing your brain, giving it nothing to focus on. No phone, no distractions, just you, with yourself. I tried to think of the last time I rested that way, and I don't think I have in the past twenty years of my life done that once. Yes, it is easier said than done but what I took away is that as long as I try, that is some improvement.
